Headstrong: 52 Women Who Changed Science – and the World by Rachel Swaby

Believe it or not, there is actually a rich history (herstory) of women who we are indebted to for their intellectual accomplishments.  Headstrong opens with an anecdote that would be more funny if it weren’t so true and prevalent about us not getting recognition for this fact.

There are 52 examples, one for every week of the year, to show us just how much women have contributed to science. Women have been a part of progress for centuries, and long before feminism was a word let alone a movement.

The women featured in this book cover several areas of expertise:

  • Medicine
  • Biology and Environment
  • Genetics and Development
  • Physics
  • Earth and Stars
  • Math and Technology
  • Invention

This is a book for anyone interested in women’s accomplishments or all scientific accomplishment. These women deserve more than a mention during Women’s History Month, many of them deserve notoriety in the fields they excelled in. Some have it, but many don’t, and I’m sure that are many more out there that we will discover together as my reading progresses.

Next we come back to the Lunar Chronicles series with Fairest: Levana’s Story, get it at your local library or my astore!
